When I was about three or four, I caught a virus at kindergarten and my mom noticed that myhearing was starting to disappear. I was getting fevers and throat infections, but after six months in hospital the doctors still couldn’t diagnose what was wrong with me. While the doctors continued to feed me antibiotics drugs, the drugs weakened the walls of my intestines. My mother got so frustrated that she went in search of a retired doctor who was more like a shamanic healer. He told her to take me to a certain beach in the north of Poland for a few days, and then to the mountains in the south for a complete change in altitude. After we did that a few times I was cured, and from then on we both believed that there was always an alternative way of working with energy. My mother was my mentor when I had a lot of emotional ups and downs during my teenage years. She was the one who guided me and who reminded me that I could change my way of thinking and the energy around me. My mom was the one who urged me to do yoga and to meditate. She didn’t attend yoga classes; she had picked it up from books and from other people and she practiced on her own. She would do backbends and headstands on the beach and I would imitate her. Stretching became something that I did naturally, and I used to do cartwheels and gymnastic tricks with my friends. When I eventually went to a yoga center everyone there was surprised that I was already so flexible.

I see yoga as a divine university where you can learn how to transform yourself, how to heal yourself, and how to see your full potential in every area of your life. For me, the aim of yoga is maintenance of the beautiful state of bliss that I have reached within myself. Yoga has made me quieter and less extreme. Yoga is a sense of contentment that you feel with anything, anywhere and at any time.
